The Asian Mediation Association (“AMA”) Conference provides a platform for delegates to exchange knowledge and share invaluable experiences and hence benefiting participants from mutual exchange of positive ideas about mediation. MeD8 is honoured to attend to the 3 rd  AMA Conference in Hong Kong.

1 st  AMA Conference and 2 nd  AMA Conference were successfully held in Singapore (2009) and Malaysia (2011) respectively. In the past AMA Conferences, many experts from around the world, including Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Australia, India, Indonesia ,the Philippines and the United States shared their precious experiences in the conference which would enhance the knowledge of the participants and expedite the development of mediation in their countries. Response from the participants was very positive and the participants reflected that AMA Conference was a very good platform and golden opportunity for them to meet with different professions in the field of mediation to exchange information and knowledge.

As one of the five founding members of the AMA, Hong Kong Mediation Centre (“HKMC”) is honoured to be the host of this international event. “Mediation: New Era – Legal Framework and Social Change” is the theme for this Conference. This biennial event would attract over 400 mediators and related professionals from across Asia to exchange views on current and emerging trends and ideas in the development of mediation in Asia.

In Hong Kong, the Mediation Ordinance was enacted in June 2012 and came into operation on 1 January 2013. It remarks a new regime of mediation development in Hong Kong. The Mediation Ordinance provides a regulatory framework for the conduct of mediation in Hong Kong without hampering the flexibility of the mediation process. Its objects are to promote, encourage and facilitate the resolution of disputes by mediation, and to protect the confidential nature of mediation communications. Hong Kong is currently in a new era for its social change upon the enactment of the Mediation Ordinance. (AMA official website)
